Schenectady, N.Y. – Springfield, which has been an Empire 8 affiliate member in football since 2004, will leave the conference following the 2011 season to join the Liberty League as an affiliate member in football. The Pride will be replaced in the Empire 8 by Buffalo State, whose addition as an affiliate member was announced last month.

ITHACA, N.Y. –Senior defensive tackle Kyle Scharles (Canandaigua Academy/Canandaigua) of the Ithaca College football team has been named the National Football Foundation Scholar Athlete award winner for the Southern Tier Chapter. Scharles will be honored Jan. 31 at a banquet held at Verona’s Turning Stone Casino.

ITHACA, N.Y. – Senior offensive tackle Jake Queener (Geneva/Geneva) and sophomore kicker Andrew Rogowski (Canisius/East Amherst) of the Ithaca College football team have been named to D3football.com's East Region All-Star Team. Rogowski earned second-team honors and Queener was a third-team pick. No Empire 8 school had more players named to the all-region team.

ITHACA, N.Y. -- Merle "Mike" Greene, a former coach and faculty member at Ithaca, passed away Friday at 89. Greene served as head coach of Ithaca's golf, wrestling and men's cross country teams during his career and was an assistant coach with the football team. Greene served as a physical education professor for three decades, beginning in 1958.
