Wilkes-Barre, Pa. -- The third-ranked wrestling team (4-0) posted four dual-meet wins at Wilkes’ John Reese Duals Saturday. A total of 14 Bombers picked up at least one win on the day, led by senior Jon Gregory (Phillipsburg/Phillipsburg, N.J.), who went 4-0 at 125 pounds.
The Bombers posted wins over Centenary (29-6), Mount St. Joseph (36-9), King’s (34-9) and #24 York (22-13). Ithaca wrestlers won 31 of their 40 matches on the day.
Gregory, ranked fifth nationally, won three times by decision and once by fall to improve to 9-0 on the season.
Sophomores Seth Ecker (Pottstown/Pottstown, Pa.) and Matt Mahon (Brighton/Rochester) both won all three of their bouts. Ecker, who’s now 5-2 at 133 pounds, picked up his second pin of the season and Mahon, wrestling at heavyweight, raised his record to 5-1.
Freshman Derek Brenon (Immaculate Heart Central/Watertown) won both his bouts at 157 by fall. Classmate Evan Connors (Phillips Exeter Academy [N.H.]/Lowell/North Weymouth, Mass.) was 2-0 at 149 pounds.
Three nationally ranked Bombers went 2-0 at the tournament: junior Blaine Wozsczak (Wall/Manasquan, N.J.), ranked second at 149 pounds; senior Willie Horwath (Liberty/Bethlehem, Pa.), fifth at 157 pounds; and junior David Priest (Wyomissing/Douglassville, Pa.), ranked sixth at 174 pounds. Priest and Wozsczak both won by major decision and technical fall; one of Horwath's wins came by major decision.
Sophomore Tom Heckman (Cedar Cliff/Mechanicsburg, Pa.) posted three wins in four matches at 197 pounds, including a pair of major decisions. Junior Jeremy Stierly (Owen J. Roberts/Pottsville, Pa.) went 2-1 to improve to 6-1.
The Bombers host #22 Lycoming Thursday at Ben Light Gymnasium.
