ITHACA, N.Y. - The Ithaca women’s tennis team is ranked 14th in the Northeast Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, the highest regional ranking in program history. The Bombers won the Empire 8 Championship for the fifth consecutive year and concluded the fall season with an undefeated dual-match record (10-0) for the third year in a row.

ITHACA, N.Y. – Six members of the Ithaca women’s tennis team and its head coach combined to earn a total of 11 honors as the Empire 8 announced its women’s tennis all-conference team and individual awards for the 2009 season. Freshman Cristina Nunez (Morris Hills/Rockaway, N.J.) was the Empire 8 Women’s Tennis Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year. She became just the third Bomber among all sports to sweep those two awards in her first collegiate campaign. Head coach Bill Austin was the Empire 8 Coach of the Year for the fifth year in a row. The Bombers won the Empire 8 Championship for the fifth consecutive year and completed the fall season with an undefeated dual-match record (10-0) for the third year in a row.

ITHACA, N.Y.--Women's tennis freshman Cristina Nunez (Morris Hills/Rockaway, N.J.) was named Empire 8 Player of the Week on Monday. She was named Most Valuable Player of the Empire 8 Championship after winning all of her matches and leading the Bombers to the conference title. She was the first freshman to be named the tournament's MVP.

Rochester, N.Y. -- The top-seeded women's tennis team (10-0) wrapped up its fifth straight Empire 8 title, blanking second-seeded Stevens Institute of Technology 5-0 in Sunday's Empire 8 Championship Tournament final. The Bombers, who became the first team to shut out every opponent in the conference tournament, earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA playoffs which begin in May. Freshman Cristina Nunez was named Tournament MVP.

Rochester, N.Y. -- The women's tennis team (9-0), seeded first in the Empire 8 Championship Tournament, posted a dominant 9-0 win over fourth-seeded Nazareth (5-6) in Saturday's semifinal round. Ithaca will face second-seeded Stevens, a 5-2 winner over third-seeded Rochester Institute of Technology in Saturday's other semifinal, Sunday at noon in the tournament final. The winner earns the Empire 8's automatic bid to the NCAA playoffs. The Bombers, four-time defending Empire 8 champions, have made three straight NCAA appearances.
