Welch Named District I Coach of the Year by AFCA

ITHACA, N.Y. -- The American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) has named Ithaca's Mike Welch its District I Coach of the Year.

Welch, who wins the award fof the first time in his career, was also named Empire 8 Coach of the Year. He raised his career record to 121-43 and won his fifth Empire 8 titles since 2002. He led the Bombers to the NCAA playoffs for the fifth time in eight years and the sixth time overall in his 15-year career.

The Bombers recorded their 38th straight winning season -- the second-longest streak at any level of college football -- and made their 17th NCAA playoff appearance.
