Rochester, N.Y. - The Ithaca women's tennis team (8-0, 7-0 Empire 8) swept through all nine matches in a 9-0 win over Rochester Institute of Technology (6-5, 5-2 Empire 8) Sunday afternoon. The victory clinched first place for the Bombers and the top seed in the Empire 8 tournament, which will be hosted by Nazareth Oct. 24-25. The winner of the Empire 8 tournament receives an automatic qualifier into the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championships in the spring.

Freshman Cristina Nunez (Morris Hills/Rockaway, N.J.) teamed with her sister, junior Melissa Nunez (Morris Hills/Rockaway, N.J.) to win 8-5 at first doubles. Cristina Nunez also won 6-2, 6-3 at first singles over RIT's Amanda Berg, who had never lost an Empire 8 singles match in regular season or conference tournament play.

Ithaca will host the New York State Division III Women's Tennis Championship tournament Friday through Sunday at Cornell's Reis Tennis Center.
