Bombers Advance at ITA Nationals

Mobile, Ala. - The Ithaca men's tennis doubles team of junior Josh Rifkin (Homestead/Ft. Wayne, Ind.) and senior Taylor Borda (West Morris-Mendham/Chester, N.J.) won 6-3, 6-4 in a quarterfinal match at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Small College Championships at the Copeland-Cox Tennis Center.
The Ithaca duo defeated Brad Fenter and Nick Kreinas of the University of Texas-Tyler in Thursday's quarterfinal. The teams exchanged breaks of serve in the middle of the first set but Ithaca took a 4-2 lead with a break. Rifkin followed by holding serve to give Ithaca a 5-2 lead and Borda eventually served out the set. Ithaca trailed 2-0 early in the second set but responded with a break to get back on serve. Ithaca broke at 3-3 in the second set to go up 4-3, and both Ithaca players held serve to close out the match.
Rifkin and Borda advance to the semifinals, which will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. They will face the top-seeded tandem of Dillon Pottish and Chris Goodwin from Emory in the semifinal round.
