ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference (ECWC) will add Morrisville as the conference's ninth member. The Mustangs will begin ECWC competition with the 2009-10 season.
Morrisville becomes the ninth member of the conference joining Ithaca, Brockport, Cortland, Lycoming, Messiah, Oneonta, Oswego and Rochester Institute of Technology.
Morrisville became an active NCAA Division III member at the beginning of the 2009 – 2010 academic year.
“The invitation to compete in the Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference represents a tremendous opportunity for us at a critical time for our program,” said Greg Carroll, Director of Athletics at Morrisville State. “This is the first year our athletes are eligible for post season competition as members of the NCAA so the chance to compete at the conference championships means everything to the young men on our team. We continue to be a young squad but hope to benefit from the opportunities to compete against and work with the some of the best wrestling programs in the northeast as a member of the Empire Wrestling Conference.”
The Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference was established in 1991. The charter members include Ithaca, Brockport, Cortland, Oneonta, Oswego and RIT. Lycoming and Messiah joined the conference for the 2007-08 season. The ECWC Championships will be held February 20, 2010 at Rochester Institute of Technology. The conference will send 15 qualifiers to the NCAA Division III Championship, to be held March 5 – 6, 2010 at Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
