Borda and Rifkin Win Regional Championship

Willingboro, N.J. - The Ithaca men's tennis doubles team of junior Josh Rifkin (Homestead/Fort Wayne, Ind.) and senior Taylor Borda (West Morris-Mendham/Chester, N.J.) won the doubles championship at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northeast Regionals held this weekend.
Rifkin and Borda, the tournament's fourth-seeded tandem, defeated the top seeded pair of Michael Mattelson and Andrew Guzik from Vassar by a convincing 8-1 score in the semifinal round Sunday. They went on to a 9-8 win, including a 7-4 victory in the tiebreaker, over Jonathan Yu and Dean Thompson from The College of New Jersey in the finals.
With the tournament title, Rifkin and Borda have automatically qualified for the ITA National Small College Championship in Mobile, Alabama Oct. 15-18. They won five matches over three days at the event.
