ITHACA, N.Y. –Senior Amy Scheffer (Schalmont/Schenectady) of the Ithaca College women’s soccer team has been named to the Academic All-America Team. Scheffer was a first-team selection as a midfielder to the 33-member College Division Women’s Soccer Academic All-America team.

Scheffer is the leading scorer (14 goals, three assists, 31 points) on a Bomber team that has advanced to this weekend’s “sweet 16” of the NCAA playoffs. Ithaca faces Rowan Saturday at Williams in a sectional semifinal. She’s a two-time Empire 8 Offensive Player of the Year and a three-time first-team all-conference selection. Scheffer was named MVP of the Empire 8 Championship Tournament both this year and last season after leading the Bombers. She earned first-team all-region honors as a sophomore and junior. She scored 33 points last season, including a team-best nine assists and a school-record seven game-winning goals set a school record. With 92 career points, she’s second on Ithaca’s all-time list; her 36 goals and 18 game-winning goals both rank second on the program’s career list as well. Scheffer’s 20 assists are good for fourth all-time at Ithaca.

Scheffer is the 69th Ithaca athlete to earn academic all-America honors including 35 (representing 15 sports) in the past 13 years. Scheffer is the first Bomber – in any sport – to earn first-team academic all-America honors since wrestler Marc Israel in 2005.

The College Division At-Large All-Academic Team honors student-athletes from NCAA Division II and III, NAIA Division II and junior college schools.
