Women's Swimming & Diving Team Beats Cortland

ITHACA, N.Y. - The Ithaca women's swimming & diving team improved its record to 3-0 on the season with a 164-79 win over Cortland (1-2) in a dual meet Saturday at Hill Center Pool. It is Ithaca's first win over Cortland in five years.

Junior Becca Blazak (Quaker Valley, Sewickley, Pa.) met an NCAA B qualifying standard in winning the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:06.69. She was also part of the winning 200 medley relay team with sophomore Amanda Vitullo (Schalmont/Schenectady), sophomore Cali DeSanto (Mexico/Mexico), and junior Sheila Rhoades (Dryden/Dryden) to win in 1:52.73.

Two Bombers were double-winners in individual competition. Rhoades was victorious in the 50 free (24.78 seconds) and 100 free (53.84 seconds). Sophomore Kelly Murphy (Blake/Silver Spring, Md.) won the 1,000 free in 11:10.90 and the 500 free in 5:23.41.

Junior Maddie Kennedy (Head Royce/Alameda, Calif.) won the 200 free in 2:02.95, freshman Carly Jones (Liverpool/Liverpool) won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:14.50 and freshman Laura Goodwell (John Muir/Altadena, Calif.) won the 100-yard butterfly in 1:02.23.

Ithaca swept both diving events as sophomore Jodi Costello (Framingham/Framingham, Mass.) won the 3-meter diving event with a score of 206.05 points and junior Meg Stover (Pennridge/Perkasie, Pa.) won the 1-meter event with a total of 208.25.

The Bombers closed the meet with a win in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a winning time of 1:43.18 by the team of freshman Lexi Brawer (Brookline/Brookline, Mass.), Jones, Kennedy, and junior Joanna Ferreri (Niskayuna/Niskayuna).

Ithaca hosts William Smith at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
