ITHACA, N.Y.—D3hoops.com announced its all-region teams Wednesday, and named Bomber senior Sean Burton (Yorkville/Notre Dame) the East Region Player of the Year and a first-team selection. He was a second-team all-region player during the 2007-08 season. Fellow senior Jeff Bostic (Geneva/Geneva) was also recognized, he was named to the East Region second-team for the second-straight year. Head coach Jim Mullins, who led Ithaca to a school-record 24 wins, was named the regional Coach of the Year.
Burton led the Bombers and the Empire 8 with 22.1 points and 7.9 assists per game, ranking 16th and fourth nationally in the two categories, respectively. He set new program single-season records with 598 points, 212 assists and a 91.4 free-throw percentage. Burton also holds Ithaca career-records with 556 assists, 261 three-point field goals and a 90.0 free-throw percentage. His 1,736 career points place him third on the Bombers’ career scoring list. Burton was named Empire 8 Player of the Year, the second straight year he received the award. He was also named to his third-straight conference first-team.
Bostic averaged a double-double for the Bombers, at 10.0 points and 10.1 rebounds per game, leading the team and ranking second in the Empire 8 in rebounding. He also ranked second in the conference with 1.6 blocks per game and third with a 56.5 field-goal percentage. Both figures led the Bombers. He joined the 1,000-point club during the season, and ranks 15th in Bomber history with 1,099 career points. Bostic also recorded 140 blocks in his career, setting the Ithaca record. He ranks third in program history with 778 career boards. Bostic was named to his third straight all-Empire 8 team.
Mullins led Ithaca to the best record in the Empire 8 and the team’s first NCAA Championship Tournament appearance since 2002. The team put together a pair of 12-game winning streaks, matching the 1963-64 squad for the longest streak in program history. The Bombers also set a school record with 88.9 points per game, a figure that ranked fifth nationally.
