ITHACA, N.Y. – Four members of the Ithaca men’s lacrosse team, including three First Team selections, were named to the 2009 New York State All-Stars for Division III men’s lacrosse. Senior defender Neth Wiedemann (Episcopal School of Dallas/Dallas, Texas) was a First Team selection and was also named Defensive Player of the Year. Senior attackman Alec Siefert (Duxbury/Duxbury, Mass.) and junior midfielder Nic Heckman (Sparta/Sparta, N.J.) joined Wiedemann on the First Team. Sophomore goalie David Gal (Loomis Chaffee [Conn.]/Amherst, Mass.) was on the Second Team.
The New York State All-Stars were comprised of the players from the Empire 8, Liberty League and State University of New York Athletic Conference. Players from all Division III men’s lacrosse teams in the state were eligible for consideration. It was the second year that the state’s coaches have selected this all-star team. Wiedemann and
Wiedemann was a First Team selection on the state all-star team for the second consecutive year. He led the Bombers and all Empire 8 defenders with 71 ground balls and also 38 caused turnovers. The Bombers allowed an average of just 7.51 goals-against per game.
Siefert was Ithaca’s leading scorer with 39 goals and 51 points. He was an efficient shooter, scoring on 47 percent of his shot attempts. Seven of his goals were man-up tallies and he had one game-winning goal. Heckman was on the First Team after recording 28 goals and 42 points. He was Ithaca’s highest scoring midfielder and had four game-winning goals.
Gal was a second team state all-star and posted a .622 save percentage and 7.33 goals-against average. He was 13-2 on the season and his career record is 20-2 through two seasons.
The Bombers were 14-2 and won the Empire 8 regular season title.
