Gettysburg, Pa. -- The ninth-ranked women's soccer team (1-0-0) opened its season with a 1-0 win at Gettysburg Friday. The victory was the 200th of Mindy Quigg's career as Ithaca coach.

The Bombers oustshot the host Bullets 24-3 and scored the game's only goal with less than five minutes to go on their final shot. Senior Amy Scheffer (Schalmont/Schenectady) took a cross from sophomore Megan Trager (Sharon/Sharon, Mass.) and converted it into the season's first goal for Ithaca.

Junior Alyssa Sotomayor (East Brunswick/East Brunswick, N.J.) stopped Gettysburg's only shot on goal to record her 16th career shutout.

Scheffer's goal, the 23rd of her career, raised her total to 61 points. She's the ninth Bomber to reach 60 points.

Quigg is now 200-66-36 in her 16th year at Ithaca. Her overall career record (including two years at West Virginia Wesleyan) is 238-84-36.

Ithaca continues its season-opening road swing Sunday, playing at top-ranked Messiah.
