ITHACA, N.Y. – Ithaca (3-7, 1-1 Empire 8) scored two late goals to post a 10-8 upset over the visiting Rochester Institute of Technology Tigers (7-4, 1-1 Empire 8) Saturday at Upper Terrace Field, The Tigers, who entered the game ranked 17th nationally, fought back from an 8-4 third-quarter deficit to tie the score before the Bombers pulled away with two goals in a 36-second span.

Junior Jay Lucas (Fox Lane/Bedford Hills) scored the game-winning goal – his second of the game – with 5:03 left in regulation and sophomore Devin Weinshank (Long Beach/Long Beach) added an insurance goal 36 seconds later.

RIT, who scored four straight goals over an eight-minutes stretch of the third and fourth quarters, had nine shots after Ithaca took the lead for good but couldn’t put any past junior David Gal (Loomis Chafee [Conn.]/Amherst, Mass.). Gal finished with 20 saves and a career-best eight ground balls.

Weinshank finished with four points, including a career-high two assists. He raised his season total to a team-high 21 points. Junior Tom Mongelli (Kinnelon/Kinnelon, N.J.) scored three goals and added four points.

Ithaca’s 7-1 run erased a 3-1 Tiger lead as the Bombers held RIT to one goal in a stretch of nearly 30 minutes. Mongelli scored two goals and assisted on a third in the run, with freshman James Callahan (Mountain Lakes/Mountain Lakes, N.J.), who recorded his first career multi-goal game, scoring twice.

Senior Nic Heckman (Sparta/Sparta, N.J.) finished with a career-best three assists, including one on Weinshank’s man-up game-winner. Ithaca .scored a season-best four extra-man goals in the win.

Junior Mike Silipo (Willis Northampton/Deerfield, Mass.) picked up five ground balls and recorded a career-best four caused turnovers to help hold the Tigers six and a half goals under their scoring average.

Gal made 12 first-half saves en route to the third 20-save performance of his career.

The Bombers return to Empire 8 play Saturday, hosting #17 Rochester Institute of Technology.
