Cortland, N.Y. – The Ithaca field hockey team (0-1) dropped its season-opening game 3-0 to #5 Cortland (1-0) Wednesday night at Cortland's Stadium Complex. The Bombers open the home portion of their season Saturday at 1 p.m. against Morrisville on Yavits Field.

Sophomore goalkeeper Kelly Singleton (Irondequoit/Rochester) made her first career start and had 13 saves, many of which came on shots from close range.

Ithaca came up with its best scoring chances in the second half. Senior back Key Fox (Hunterdon Central/Solebury, Pa.) deflected a shot near the left post but the ball went wide of the post and hit the outside of the cage. On a series of penalty corners as the second half expired, Ithaca senior forward Katherine Brown (Akron/Akron) took a shot from in front of the cage, but the Cortland goalkeeper deflected it enough and the ball trickled wide of the net to conclude the game.
