Whittier Holds Off #19 Bombers For 8-7 Baseball Win

Whittier, Calif. – The #19 Bombers (3-6) wrapped up their spring trip with an 8-7 loss at Whittier Sunday. The Bombers scored twice in the ninth and had the tying and go-ahead runs on base when the game ended.

Freshman third baseman David Ahonen (Victor/Farmington), who recorded his second three-hit game of the week, singled with the bases loaded to score in a pair of runs in the ninth. After a walk to senior second baseman Todd Czerno (Columbia/Brainard) reloaded the bases, the Poets turned a line drive into a game-ending double play.

Ahonen, senior outfielder Rob Raux (Frankfort/Ilion) and junior catcher Drew Ash (Morris Knolls/Denville, N.J.) each had three hits. Raux also scored three runs, including a steal of home in the third inning.

Senior shortstop Josh Smith (Pulaski/Richmond) drove in two runs and senior first baseman Shane Wolf (Dryden/Freeville) singled twice.

The Bombers travel to York for a 3:30 p.m. game Thursday.
