2007-08: Cruz played in 12 games as a freshman, averaging 4.4 points in 7.8 minutes per game. His season-high in scoring came on 13 points against Oneonta. Cruz shot .462 from the floor and .833 from the free throw line.

High School: A 2007 graduate of West Genesee High School, Cruz was coached by Steve Dunham, a two-time all-American basketball player at Ithaca. He was a first-team all-league and second-team all-Central New York selection his senior season while also earning team MVP honors.

Personal: A health and physical education major, he is the son of Carmen Rivas. His brother, Jose, is a member of the wrestling team at Morrisville.
