Cortland 1, Penn State Behrend 0

Ithaca, N.Y. -- The top-seeded Cortland Red Dragons (41-6) eliminated fifth-seeded Penn State Behrend (33-8) from the NCAA playoffs with a 1-0 win in Friday's final game at the NCAA regional held at Ithaca College. The Red Dragons will play Buffalo State Friday at 2 p.m

The double elimination tournament comtinues Friday and Saturday and concludes Sunday.

Katie Finch threw a complete-game one-hitter, striking out 13 (including six straight at one point) and allowing just three base runners. She held the Lions hitless until a one-out fifth-inning single by catcher Amy Greene. Penn State Behrend's other two base runners came on a third-inning walk and a sixth inning hit batter.

The Red Dragons scored the game's only run after loading the bases with no outs in the third. Rose Morrison walked and Brooke Weidman singled to start the inning and Donnalynn Cross beat out a bunt. Center fielder Crystal Carlson grounded to Lions pitcher Hahn, who started a 1-2-3 double play by forcing Morrison at home, but on Greene's throw to first -- which retired Carlson -- Weidman continued running and slid in ahead of the return throw home.

Hahn allowed just three hits in taking the loss.
