Keuka 10, St. John Fisher 2
Ithaca, N.Y. -- The sixth-seeded Keuka Storm (24-6) upset the third-seeded St. John Fisher Cardinals (30-11) 10-2 in a first-round action of the NCAA regional hosted by Ithaca College. Keuka held its opponents to just four hits in the win. Both teams return to action Friday, with the Storm facing the winner of Thursday’s game between Rochester and King’s and the Cardinals facing the loser of that game in an elimination contest. Friday’s games will be played at noon and 10 a.m., respectively.
Keuka got all the scoring it needed with three unearned runs in the second. Sarah Fredricks led off the inning with a single and Morgan Engelbert was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second. A sacrifice bunt moved Fredricks and Engelbert up, and they both scored on a St. John Fisher throwing error. Lindsay Humberstone drove in the inning's third run on an RBI single up the middle.
The Storm tacked on five more in the third inning, with Engelbert and Fredricks hitting RBI singles and Denise Bilbow driving in two on a double to center. Sarah James, who had three hits in the game, hit a run-scoring triple in the inning.
The Cardinals scored their two runs in the bottom of the third, with Lauren O’Brien hitting an RBI single and scoring on a double from Kristi Bradley. O’Brien had two hits in the contest.
Kasie Davis pitched four innings to pick up the win, her 13th of the season. She struck out two and allowed three hits.
